Bio
Tracy is a singing teacher with over 30 years’ experience, specialising in musical theatre vocal styles and techniques. She has worked in the tertiary, school and community sectors with singers of all ages and levels of experience, many of whom are working professionally in the entertainment sector as music theatre performers in mainstage productions and tours, fringe shows, cabaret, and comedy festivals.
In 2016, she completed a PhD by publication through Sydney University on the Perceptual, Physiological and Acoustic Characteristics of Male and Female Music Theatre Singers. Her research findings have been cited in international voice journals and contributed to the understanding of music theatre vocal technique and effective pedagogical approaches to singing training in Australia and internationally. She has contributed as an expert teacher to pedagogical publications including The Vocal Athlete: Application and Technique for the Hybrid Singer, Third Edition, by Marci Daniels Rosenberg and Wendy D. LeBorgne, Plural Publishing (3rdedition, 2026) and Training Contemporary Commercial Singers, by Elizabeth Anne Benson, Compton Publishing (2020).
She is currently President of the Victorian Chapter of Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS).
Teaching Info
My approach to singing training is based on a broad range of contemporary voice teaching methodologies from the USA and Europe; ie Estill, Somatic VoiceworkTM, and others, and on my own experience as a singer and teacher. My teaching practice is informed by a deep understanding of vocal function and the ways that singers think and learn. Lessons are student centred, reflective and consultative.
I will work with you to extend your vocal skills in a way that fits with your aims. In our lessons, you will learn more about your instrument and how it works and the best technical exercises and applications for your sound, and your body. We will work together to build technical ‘problem-solving’ tools, so that you are able to make adjustments to your sound in your own practice. We will focus on repertoire that you enjoy, and that extends your sound, your technique and your performance skills so that you build versatility and confidence as a singer.
My studio is in Seddon, Melbourne within 10 minutes of trains, or by bus which stops directly outside my door.
Teaching times (currently) are Tuesdays (all day), Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
Lesson times can be 30, 45, or 60 minutes long, depending on your aims, your budget and schedule. I find that 45 minutes is ideal – in that time we can really dig into thorny technical issues as well as delving into repertoire that will extend your vocal and expressive skills.
Please get in touch to chat about your voice and what you would like to work on with me.
