Bio

I’m a Melbourne-based guitarist, bassist and music educator with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Improvisation from the Victorian College of the Arts.

I teach guitar and bass to players of all levels, from complete beginners to experienced musicians looking to develop their skills and musical identity. My teaching focuses on improvisation, instrumental technique, jazz theory and helping students find their own voice on their instrument.

I believe learning an instrument should be about more than simply copying other players. My goal is to give students the tools to explore the sounds, styles and ideas that inspire them, regardless of genre, and develop their own unique approach to music.

I have played guitar throughout my life and have been playing bass in rock and R&B bands since the age of 15. I currently perform with a range of jazz and experimental music groups around Melbourne, giving me experience across a wide range of musical styles and approaches.

Whether you want to build a strong foundation, improve your technique, understand theory or become a more confident improviser, I tailor lessons to your individual interests and goals.

Teaching Info

Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests, experience and goals. I take the time to understand what each student wants to achieve on their instrument, then design exercises and material specifically around those goals.

Students will receive a lesson plan and material to work on throughout the week, giving them a clear and efficient path for developing their skills between lessons. This may include technical exercises, improvisation exercises, repertoire, theory, ear training and creative challenges.

My teaching style is practical, supportive and focused on helping students progress efficiently while developing their own musical voice. Rather than following a rigid curriculum, I provide students with the tools and knowledge to explore the styles and sounds they are interested in and become more independent musicians.
