Hi, I’m Caitlin, and I’m a music teacher. Due to a recent move, I currently only offer online lessons via Skype. I am happy to teach online from ages 8 and up, though 8-11 year olds must have a parent/guardian involved at all times, and 12-18 year olds should have their parent/guardian available readily available if needed.

Lessons are structured to cater to individual needs – different instruments have different lesson plans and requirements, but the main goal is always to leave a lesson with some sense of achievement and to have had fun. Generally, younger students who can read letters and numbers fluently will begin reading notation with lots of activities and games to help with their general musicianship. For most students, at least half the lesson will be spent working on specific pieces on their chosen instrument, and the remainder of the lesson is spent developing their musicianship through technical work (scales, arpeggios, strength exercises etc.), games, theory, general knowledge, listening, and reflection. I believe the most important thing is to be engaging to the student, as people do not learn unless they have a purpose or reason.
