Bio

Cheryl is a Clarinet, Saxophone and Flute player and teacher, offering instrumental music lessons from beginner to advanced level. With over 40 years of music teaching experience in both classroom and instrumental music she has achieved consistently high AMEB and VCE results and has vast experience in the direction of School Concert Bands and Stage Bands, including regular participation in Eisteddfods such as the Royal South Street Competitions. Many of her students have gone on to successful careers in music or associated fields. Her playing experience includes Concert Bands, Swing Bands, Small Classical Ensembles and Theatre Work. She has wide experience in school music coordination and regional music coordination including organising concerts, overseeing and supporting music programs in schools, organising inter- school workshops and concerts, and organising professional development for music teachers. During her career she has also mentored and supervised pre-service teachers which she has very much enjoyed. Cheryl strives to make lessons enjoyable for students and encourages them to discover their unique talents to practise to be the best that they can be.


Teaching Info

Lessons are tailored to the individual taking account of the student’s musical background, interests, and goals. Lesson material covered will include basic skills, technical work and a variety of instrument repertoire. Every effort is made to create a comfortable and supportive learning environment where the student feels relaxed and can develop a sense of self efficacy in their learning journey. The focus is on a growth mindset at any age. Anyone can learn to play and participate in the joy of music making!
