Bio

Hello! My name is Emica, a Melbourne-based freelancing flutist originally from Christchurch, and I’m currently in my final year at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), studying under Alison Mitchell. In 2023, I completed my Bachelor of Music at Te Kōkī the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM).

With over six years of teaching experience, I teach both privately and in schools, with a passion to educate students of any age and stage. Beyond solo flute repertoire, I love sharing my experience in orchestral and chamber ensemble performance.

Some highlights of my work experience include performing with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band. As well as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra as part of ANAM’s side-by-side program, and as a soloist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for ANAM’s 2024 Concerto Competition Finals.

Emica is an amazing teacher! I really appreciate her focus on building strong foundations rather than just preparing students for exams. She is easy-going, thoughtful, and always makes her lessons fun and engaging. My child loves her lessons and has improved so much over the past few months. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Teaching Info

My aim is always to tailor lessons for each student to help achieve their unique and personal musical goals. That can entail jamming to your favourite pop songs, performing solo works, or playing duets, every lesson is personalised to suit students’ interests and needs.

As a teacher, I place a strong emphasis on foundational skills, improving tone, technique, musicality, and theory to ensure well-rounded development. With over eight years of experience as a kids and youth leader, alongside teaching in schools, I find it a real joy working with children. My goal is to ensure lessons are engaging, fun, and inspiring for students of all ages!

Emica has been teaching my daughter flute for around 18 months. She is talented, engaging, flexible, and a great role model, I highly recommend her!
