Bio

NOW ACCEPTING ENROLMENTS FOR GUITAR LESSONS – Tuesday evenings in North Fitzroy (no other lesson times available).

I am a musician and educator with a degree in Jazz Performance from Monash University (Double Bass). Currently based in Clifton Hill, just north of Melbourne’s CBD.

My professional experience includes performing and recording rock, funk/soul, jazz and improvised music, and performing interstate at various music festivals. I have also completed musical courses in Italy and New York. I have studied with some of Australia’s greatest musicians, including Tony Gould, Robert Burke, Simon Starr, Tamara Murphy, Jordan Murray, Paul Williamson, Frank di Sario and Tony Floyd.

I am currently employed as an instrumental teacher (bass/guitar/double bass) and ensemble director at four Melbourne secondary schools, as well as offering lessons outside of school hours.

As of 2024, my teaching schedule is almost at full capacity – but I may have some availability for guitar lessons on Tuesday evenings in North Fitzroy. Please get in touch if that time suits you.

Teaching Info

My aim is to develop in all students the attitude and skills required for a rewarding long-term relationship with music. This begins with gaining an understanding of what level the student is at and what they want to achieve. From there, I will focus on engaging and encouraging the student, working with them to establish a path of learning that is enjoyable and yields satisfying results.

My teaching method is based on using the progressive structure of a quality method book alongside preparation of a song for performance. I offer concerts at the end of every term for students to get performance experience and display what they have worked on throughout the term.

I am a firm believer that the skills involved in learning music in this way can benefit all areas of a person’s life, as they have done for me.
