Violin Lessons
Bio
I began learning the violin at the age of nine and after graduating from the Conservatorium of Music, Melbourne University, began a full-time career as a professional violinist, playing for the Australian Opera and the Australian Ballet. Wanting to develop my playing to a higher level, in 1983 I moved to Lucerne, Switzerland where I began two years of Post Graduate studies with Professor Rudolf Baumgartner and Maestro Gunars Larsens – Musical Director and Concertmaster respectively of the internationally acclaimed Festival Strings of Lucerne. Upon returning to Australia at the end of 1985, I took up a teaching appointment at St. Anne’s and Gippsland Grammar School before taking up a full-time violin teaching appointment at Scotch College Melbourne in 1990, where, together with a colleague, I set up a very successful Suzuki programme for violin and cello. I was actively involved in the Scotch music programme, conducting various string orchestras, coaching chamber ensembles and tutoring the first violins in the Scotch Symphony Orchestra for many years. I have been involved in the Suzuki movement both as a parent and teacher since my then four-year-old daughter began violin lessons in 1993. I have completed all levels of Suzuki Teaching Accreditation (Primary 1998, Intermediate 2007), gaining his Advanced Teaching Certificate with Lois Shepheard in 2011. I retired from Scotch in 2017 and continue to teach privately from my home studio at 31 Woolhouse Street Northcote.
