Bio
Holding a Masters of Teaching, Mr. Gordon has worked extensively in the public school system as a music and classroom teacher. With over 15 years of experience performing in jazz, singer-songwriting, folk and khayal artist (Indian Classical Music ) – he is a key part of Raga Music School’s teaching team.
He teachers both Western and Indian guitar:
- Acoustic, steel and nylon string (using picking, hybrid picking or fingerstyle)
- Electric guitar (incorporating guitar pedals using hybrid and standard pickling)
- Raga-based Indian guitar (using Eastern notation, improvisational accompaniment)
- AMEB exam preparation and piece tuitionĀ
Teaching Info
For Western Acoustic or Electric Guitar:
- 40 minute lesson
- Learning notes across entire fretboard using Western notation (E, F, F# etc.)
- Isolated picking drills
- Chords (open tuning, barre chords, alternate tunings)
- Strumming Technique
- Solo improvisation (using scales and root notes)
- Western music theory
For raga-based Indian guitar:
- 40 minute lesson
- Learning notes across entire fretboard using Eastern notation (Sa, Re, Ga etc)
- Learning through Raag Bandish (Yaman, Malkauns etc.)
- Isolated picking drills (based on Sitar)
- Khayal improvisation within Raag
- Vocal accompaniment
- Chords (associated with Raag learnt at the time)
- Strumming Technique (to match common Taals, eg. Teental, Keherva etc.)
- Shastriya Sangeet music theory
